massage therapy

Many aches and pains are the result of overused and abused muscle tissue. Muscle that is subjected to stress and strain over time starts to breakdown at the cellular level. Tissue breakdown leads to the development of scar tissue or excessive collagen formation, binding muscle fibres together. Normal suppleness is replaced by rigid, taut bands, rippled with “knots” and resulting in pain.

PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF MASSAGE (RMT)

  • Elimination of trigger points, or painful knots that develop in overworked muscle
  • Increased blood flow to tissues
  • Accelerated tissue healing due to increased blood flow and oxygen delivery
  • Increased rate of toxin removal, including lactic acid and other byproducts of tissue breakdown
  • Depletion of scar tissue or excessive collagen build-up between muscle fibres
  • Lowered risk of muscle and tendon injury
  • Restored strength via increased force production capabilities of muscle

CONDITIONS THAT ARE EFFECTIVELY TREATED BY MASSAGE THERAPY

  • Chronic spinal pain due to degenerative disc disease (DDD)
  • Headache/cervical tension type headache
  • Shoulder tendonitis/rotator cuff injury
  • Sports Injuries
  • Cumulative strain injuries: tennis elbow/plantar fascitis
  • Pregnancy related back and neck pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other neuropathy
  • Lymphedema
